Reading Books

Next week, your child will be bringing their first reading book home in their book bag. Every child begins their reading journey on colour band 'Red'.

We ask you to read with your child as much as possible at home as this really enables them to make the progress that they deserve. The more your child reads at home, the more likely it is that they will move their way through the colour bands.

Please note your child's reading book bag needs to be in school EVERYDAY. We will be changing reading books every Tuesday and Friday. It is very important that you sign and comment in your child's reading diary - we WONT be able to change their book if this isn't done. Signing and commenting in your child's reading diary enables us to keep a track of what they are reading at home.

PE

In Reception we will be doing PE every Friday. Please ensure that your child has a full PE Kit in school at all times. They will be sent home each half term to be washed. Please ensure that any jewellery is removed on PE days.

We have only just started school and we are doing so well! At the moment we are working on finding where everything is in the classroom. We are learning where a 'peg' is and where our 'tray' is as well making lots of new friends!

Very soon you will be finding out all about our learning once our journey has begun.....

This term we have been learning about lots of interesting things! Our first topic was all about 'Changes' - We talked about how we change as we grow older, the changes from Nursery to Reception and also the changes we see during Autumn! We went on a very exciting 'Autumn Walk'......

Our second topic was called 'Lets Celebrate!' We had lots of fun with this topic and we found out lots about different celebrations. We learnt about 'Birthdays', 'Weddings', 'Diwali' and of course 'Christmas'.

Birthdays - a mystery box was delivered to our classroom. Inside there were party hats, party bags, balloons, birthday glasses and a mystery letter, explaining what had happened.....someone had had a party in our classroom when we weren't there! As you can imagine, we had to do lots of talking about this box! Look at what we said.....

We have been very 'Busy Bees' so far especially during Literacy and Maths. We all have our own Maths and Literacy book...we are very proud of them!

In Literacy we have been learning to read and write words. Some of us are starting to write sentences already....how amazing is that?!!!

In Maths we have been learning to count, to recognise numbers, to add numbers using objects, naming and describing 2D and 3D shapes, making patterns and measuring things!
